Thiri's Story

Thiri Thinzar Soe is 4 1/2 years old. She and her family live outside Yangon,
the capital city of Myanmar. Like most kids her age, Thiri loves playing games
with her friends and enjoys going to school.

Unfortunately, the water from the local source in Thiri's community
is rife with bacteria and other contaminants, making it dangerous to drink.
So, without access to water treatment options,Thiri and other children under five years of age
are at risk of serious health effects--and even death--from waterborne illness.

Thanks to your support, Thirst-Aid is active in Thiri's community.
We're making ceramic water filters available in homes, schools and monasteries.
We're also educating people about the importance of safe water and teaching them
simple hygiene and sanitation practices that improve health and save lives.

The result?
Thiri's family understands how important it is to ensure her drinking water is treated.
She and her friends drink purified water at home and at school.
And, child mortality rates are on the decline in her community.

Due in part to your generous support, Thiri and other kids like her are
far more likely to celebrate their 5th birthdays.

Thank you for your support!
